Command the Heavy Machinery That Moves Giants

Aviation Heavy Equipment Operations

If you have a passion for heavy machinery and extreme precision, Delta Air Lines has the ultimate role for you. We are seeking elite equipment operators to join our Tow Team. This is a specialized tier of ramp agent jobs requiring nerves of steel and perfect spatial awareness. When you pursue aviation jobs of this caliber, you are directly responsible for the safe movement of aircraft weighing hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Job Summary

As a Tow Team Ramp Agent, you will operate massive pushback tractors (tugs) to maneuver commercial aircraft. Your primary duty is to push departing flights back from the gate into the active alleyway, setting them up for taxi. Additionally, you will perform "tow" operations, relocating empty aircraft between gates, hangars, and remote parking pads. This is one of the most highly respected and critical airport jobs on the tarmac.

Specialized Responsibilities

  • Precision Pushback: Connect tow bars (or operate towbarless tractors) to the nose gear of various aircraft types (Boeing, Airbus) and push them back with centimeter-level precision.
  • Flight Deck Communication: Maintain constant, clear headset communication with the Captain and First Officer during the entire pushback and engine-start sequence.
  • Aircraft Relocation: Coordinate with ground control (ATC) via radio to secure clearance for towing aircraft across active taxiways to maintenance hangars.
  • Brake Riding: Serve as the certified "brake rider" inside the flight deck during relocation tows, ready to apply emergency aircraft brakes if the tow connection fails.
  • Safety Dominance: Execute rigorous pre-tow inspections of both the aircraft landing gear and the tow tractor to prevent catastrophic equipment failures.

Elite Rewards & Benefits

This high-skill role offers dominant rewards in the airline industry:

  • Specialized Pay: Earn premium override pay for pushback and brake-riding certifications.
  • Travel the World: Incredible standby flight privileges on Delta's global network.
  • Health & Wealth: Top-tier health insurance, comprehensive dental/vision, and a robust 401(k) program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Ramp Agent; heavy equipment or commercial driving experience highly preferred.
  • Must pass rigorous internal certification for pushback, towing, and brake riding.
  • Flawless communication skills and the ability to remain completely calm under pressure.
